What is the Child Study Team?
The Child Study Team (CST) is a school-based, multidisciplinary team that is responsible to locate, identify, evaluate, determine eligibility, and develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students suspected of having disabilities that impact their education. This group of specialists, as determined by the New Jersey Department of Education, include a school psychologist, a learning disabilities teacher-consultant, a school social worker, and in some cases, a speech-language specialist or a behavior specialist.
All members:
- Serve as consultants to faculty and administration regarding students
- Conduct comprehensive studies of students with significant learning and/or behavioral difficulties
- Recommend educational strategies and programs to meet the special needs of students
- Work with parents and community agencies to promote a cooperative approach to the educational, social, and physical wellbeing of children
